About ServantCARE

ServantCARE is an evangelical cross-denominational Christian ministry committed to serving missionaries, pastors, and those in ministry. We do not supplant the support provided by mission agencies or ministries, but rather seek to enhance that care by providing additional, as well as supplemental services. Almost every mission agency cares deeply for its personnel, and provides training, encouragement, and support for them. Often, most of the contact comes while they are home. A few receive on-field visits. We seek to care for the whole person, providing for their unique needs. Ministry families come to us from all areas of the world, some needing quiet rest, some needing healing from wounds of conflict and persecution, others simply needing to be heard, understood and supported in their time of trials. Whatever the needs, we seek to always be instruments of refreshment and restoration.

Our Story

When one thinks of ServantCARE, one can't help but to picture Mr. Larry and Miss Anita. While not the founders, they were the directors shortly after it's inception and have fully embodied the work, while also being the very heartbeat behind it's endeavor. Every story has an origin. Here's ours.

The Beginning

Larry and Anita were in their late 30’s when Larry began working with the Waffle House company. After 10 years, he opened a location in the small town of Eufaula, Alabama. They began cooking and serving delicious food, while also caring for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of those who came in. One at a time, guests came in with a hungry appetite, not knowing they were about to get much more than what they paid for. Over time, they became known as the 'people to see if you have a problem.' "Go see Larry & Anita" people would say, "they'll fix you up." So that's what they did, and they ministered to those who came in. With a large heart for the lost, they loved serving and caring for those who came through the Waffle House doors...pointing them to Jesus. At times, they took people into their home, led them to the Lord, discipled them, and deeply cared for them.

The Invitation

After 8 years had passed, God made it apparent it was time for their next season. God began to speak to them about ministering to the church. His sheep. Particularly servant leaders. "But God, Christians already have Jesus, they don't need us to minister to them, the lost need Jesus!" was Anita's response. So, after a time of struggle, one day while Anita was wrestling with this invitation, God spoke to her, "Anita, you can continue to win them one at a time, or you can have nations for your inheritance." That was it. This was the revelation she needed. Anita caught the vision of touching a leader's life, who can then in turn, touch the life of a family...a community...a nation. Touching Lives, Impacting Nations. So they began asking God what they would do next. One day the question was asked, "God, could you define for us a little of what it is you want us to do?" He gave them a vision of a key ring with a little box hanging from it. God then said clearly, "There are millions of Christians in boxes just like that and I want you to let them out." Thus began the days of listening to how He wanted them to do that and ultimately, it became clear that ServantCARE was the way.

The Growth

In 2000, they ended the Waffle House ministry and joined the recently launched ministry of ServantCARE. They, along with the founder, began traveling to foreign countries to offer genuine care for missionaries. One year after its inception, the founder of ServantCARE felt called back into law, so Larry & Anita became directors. As they spent time with missionaries, many needs became abundantly clear to them, like: stateside housing, personal heart ministry, and additional prayer coverage, among other things. Thus began the days of taking long road trips, building a network of biblical counselors and recruiting others into this ministry of CARE. At times, Larry & Anita referred missionaries to trusted ministry partners and oftentimes, they themselves met these needs. They personally helped Christians out of the box by listening, praying for, debriefing, encouraging, and CARING for them, one at a time, as God brought them.

The Next Chapter

Larry & Anita, along with the wonderful ServantCARE staff, faithfully continued to carry out this work for the next 24 years. There were plans to hand over the director role in 2025, but in February of 2024, at ServantCARE’s annual staff meeting, Miss Anita heard the Lord say “today’s the day.” So that day, they obeyed the Lord and appointed Jacob and Anna Morgan as the new directors. The Morgans had joined ServantCARE 14 years earlier and were being prepared to step into this role. Shortly after passing the mantle, in May of 2024, Miss Anita passed from this world into eternity to be with the Lord. We are so grateful for the legacy of Miss Anita & Mr. Larry, setting a strong foundation of genuine love and CARE for people, one at a time. We are honored to carry this heart into the next season. Today, Larry serves on the board of ServantCARE, helping to guide the ministry into the next chapter of kingdom work as we continue to CARE for those who serve. To God be the Glory!

About Our Logo

Decades ago when God called our directors out of "marketplace ministry" they began asking Him where they were going. He was silent until one day the question was asked, "Could you define for us a little of what it is you want us to do?" The response was a reminder of a key ring with a little box hanging from it. The lid could be lifted and a voice inside cried "Help!" Lifting it again you heard, "Is there anybody out there?" Lifting it the third time you heard, "Will somebody please let me out of here?" God then said very clearly, "There are millions of Christians in boxes just like that and I want you to let them out." Thus began the days of listening to how He wanted them to do that and ultimately it became abundantly clear that ServantCARE was the way. Thus, our logo was designed by Greg Lee of His Everlasting Love Prevails (H.E.L.P.).

The S indicates how frazzled God's servants can become, while the box indicates the condition in which many servants find themselves. There are a multitude of reasons people find themselves boxed in. Often, it is because the fit is not right, or perhaps God is trying to get their attention. Sometimes the frazzled condition arises as they begin to break out of the box. Other times they may find themselves boxed in when they have been treated unjustly and are deeply hurt. Psalm 34:18 says, "The Lord is near the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit." The reasons for being frazzled or in a box are as numerous as there are people. As we sit and listen and pray we want to help the person come to a point of wholeness. On rare occasions there is sin. God always has redemptive purposes - even when sin is involved. Hebrews 4:5 reminds us, "For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin." James 2:13 also reminds us that "...mercy triumphs over judgment." He is our redeemer and healer. Notice how things smooth out as there is movement toward the Father’s loving heart and the cross. Our desire through love, caring, listening, praying, personal ministry, meeting practical needs, and connecting is to point them to the Father's heart - on the field if necessary. WE CARE!
